Amsterdam

Amsterdam visualizes an alternative universe. A cyber city where everyone voluntarily uploads all their information and data onto a central controlling system. In doing so, humans can live beyond the boundaries of natural law.

The project constructs an immersive experience of this fictional world by using multiple communication platforms: illustrator, photoshop, after effects, adobe XD, and lens studio. The narrative is loosely based on my science fiction novel, Amsterdam.

Inspired from the 90s retro style, and french new wave cinema, a custom-designed typeface, graphic language, and color palette set Amsterdam’s visual language and emotional tone.

A modular slab serif typeface references back to the early computer interface design. The visual language hints at the broader historical context of science fiction work on similar topics.

Concept illustration helps to further identify the world’s environment, ambiance, and mood. It also establishes creates in-depth details for world building.

The story is apdted into an interactive novel game. Linear and nonlinear narratives are employed as devices to turn the readers into active investigators. By connecting the content of security camera's footage, the users will uncover a hidden storyline of a person being hunted by the city’s security camera system.

Interactive experience is introduced into the novel game to consturct a more immersive participation with the project.

Gesture based filter welcomes us to play, test, and feel how life would be like in the fictional Amsterdam.
